Why Midjourney upscaling is different from re-rolling a prompt
If you re-run a prompt or hit Vary, Midjourney generates a new picture and composition can change. An AI upscaler does the opposite: it locks your exact image and only increases pixel count, reconstructing edges, hair, fabric and texture.
What size do you actually need?
- Social / web (1080–2048px): the original export or 2x is plenty.
- 4K wallpaper (3840px): choose 4x on a 1024px source.
- Prints & canvas: aim for ~300 DPI — a 4x upscale covers an A3 / 12×16" print.
- Tip: start with 2x. It looks the most natural; only go to 4x when the output size truly demands it.
